Leading up to the first floor, there is a landing area and three additional bedrooms, two of which have built-in wardrobes and two of the bedrooms are en suite.  The character of the home is evident in the master bedroom where the original fireplace with Liscannor hearth and tiled inset is still in existence.

HISTORY/BACKGROUND

In 1925, ‘The Old Schoolhouse’ on the Maree Road was leased to the Department of Education at a rent of one penny per year and it continued to function as a school until 1971, when it was replaced by a new larger school at a different location within Oranmore.   It was built in the late 1800s or early 1900s and has links going back to the Tribes of Galway through its original owners, namely Lynch-Athy who were large landowners, living in the nearby Renville House; later Bayview House.  The property was leased by them to the Department of Eduacation at a peppercorn rent of one penny a year, payable on the feast day of St Brigid, if demanded.   In 1946, Mary Athy transferred the freehold to Diocese of Galway, who in turn sold the schoolhouse to the present owners in the mid 1980’s.  They subsequently spared no expense in weatherproffing, restoring, extending as well as installing plumbing and electrics, bringing the property up to modern day standards.
